Good times

My cousin Colleen came up to see the birds at the gallery. It was good to see her and have her stay a while. We did a lots of long gallery and garden tours which were heavily spiced with hot chocolate and wine from the hunter valley vineyards. This was defiantly a week to remember and hopefully repeat.
Seeing Col with the birds reminds me of how much I now miss them....and how much I miss her.

These paintings are from a series called “Icon Birds”. The gold leaf reminds me of the sun which sets behind the birds that come to feed in the garden. I exhibited these at Studio 48 in April. Most of the birds sold and I miss them. They were very vibrant and enlivened my home and studio.

Again birds. We feed most of these and I just love their feathers and their playful ways. They are a delight to watch.

All paintings are original and for the main are developed from what I see around me.

The paintings are on good quality canvas in acrylic or oils and finished with a protective coat. Prices depend on the size and the detail of the work. All prices are in Australian Dollars.
For example:
The small 30cm x 30cm paintings of the snorkelers sold for $ 80.
“where the lake meets the ocean” $ 350 and “friends “ $ 250.

This painting of girl friends at the pool is for my friends Ros and Belinda. It is just a reminder of a lovely long friendship. The birds we feed and when the sun is behind them they remind me of icons.

Studio

This is my painting studio. It was once (in the last millennium) a pottery studio. Don’t you love the “French bordello” lounge I picked up at an antique shop? This is where I think about my paintings and where increasingly friends come to chat.

The studio is open, well ventilated and filled with gorgeous natural light and just in case, 12 artificial lights. I have a collection of 8 easels which I use all the time. Being able to look at many works at once means you bounce off ideas from one work to another and this provides a buzz all of its own.

My artist’s life...

I spent my early life on a farm and water was precious. Holidays were exciting things and they became my gateway to the harbour, beaches, boating, canoeing and all water sports. In adult life the water thing just kept on happening. I loved the play of light, the transparency and movement. Years later I continue to paint that which first attracted: water and figures, the movement and joy of life. I like to invoke the pleasures the waterside has provide for me and many others. I think my paintings reflect back on those simple common things we did. These images include confidences at the beach with friends, reading the day away, and all those other personal beach parties that we have all shared in. I love the play of colour and light on the body and through the water to the hidden unexpected depths below.

My other lives....

Mother, wife, physics teacher. Believer in the multiverse theory ( the existence of more than one universe), aliens and change. I love Einstein, mathematics, space time and Dr Who.

Ambition…

To paint the universe in all its fascinating layers and to be an alien one day soon.
